Available Today: Verizon Wireless Offers New Prepaid Data Package on 3G Smartphones and Multimedia Phones

Verizon Wireless today announced it will be expanding its portfolio of prepaid offerings to include a new 3G Prepaid data package that lets customers access unlimited data on select 3G Smartphones and Multimedia phones for $30 monthly access.  Multimedia phone customers also have the option of selecting a new $10 monthly data package for 25 MB per month ($.20/MB overage).  These new prepaid data packages will be available in Verizon Wireless Communications Store today and online at www.verizonwireless.com beginning Sept. 28.

"These new data offerings will help our prepaid customers experience the full breadth of Verizon Wireless' robust device portfolio and the many engaging, informative and helpful applications that depend on a data plan," said Jim Sullivan, director of marketing for Verizon Wireless.  "Our prepaid customers will now have the freedom to enjoy all of the capabilities that these phones have to offer, while controlling costs and without being tied to a contract."

The 20th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards

The evening of August 30th was filled with glamour and theatre enthusiasts for the 20th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards at the Director’s Guild of America in Los Angeles. The awards featured hostess LisaRaye McCoy who appeared in a beautiful white one-piece outfit as she stepped out of her white four door Bentley. McCoy’s co-host, Mekhi Phifer, arrived at the awards with a black Versace suit and was excited to carry out the show.



The Beverly Hills/Hollywood Branch was happy to honor a full slate of honoree and their presenters. LL Cool J and actress Nia Long presented to the first honoree, Ashanti Douglas (Spirit Theatre Award). Long mentioned her experience of co-directing Ashanti’s video “Baby,” in addition, LL Cool J, spoke about Ashanti’s brilliant performance during ‘The Wiz’ and her ability to seamlessly cross over into theatre from music. Another honoree presenter included Ben Vereen, who is a previous NAACP Theatre Award honoree. Vereen came to pass the torch to Broadway director, Kenny Leon who received the Trailblazer Theatre Award. The Humanitarian Theatre Award was given to Isagenix for their efforts to aid victims of the Haitian earthquake disaster. Along those lines, actress Sharon Leal presented Wal-Mart the President’s Theatre Award which was accepted by Quadiru Kent, Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Following Wal-Mart was Tavis Smiley who presented the Community Service Theatre Award to Wren Brown for his efforts within the theatre community. Lastly, Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. presented the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Jeffrey Wright for his numerous accomplishments and dedication to the theatre arts over the course of his career.

The awards night was also filled with action-packed vignettes including “Mr. Bojangles” starring Obba Babatunde, “Sarafina” which is produced by Wendy Raquel Robinson’s Amazing Grace Conservatory, “Chicago Club Rumboogie”, and “The First Wives Club” the musical starring Tony Award nominee Sheryl Lee Ralph. Music mogul and multi-platinum selling recording artist JAY-Z will take the stage at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for an electrifying musical performance following a one-of-a-kind, on-court showcase featuring finalists for the 2010 USA Basketball World Championship Team as part of the inaugural World Basketball Festival – brought together by Converse, the Jordan Brand and Nike Basketball.

“We’re excited to bring together the international prestige of JAY-Z and the USA Team on stage at famed Radio City Music Hall to open the first World Basketball Festival. In making the announcement, Fellman stated, "Moving to the Labor Day weekend not only allows us to take advantage of the long holiday weekend, but gives us some distance from the other female-driven films releasing in August. "Going the Distance" stars Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and Christina Applegate. Barrymore plays Erin, whose wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. Kevin Carson (Bow Wow), a young man living in the projects, is just an ordinary guy…until he wins $370 million in the Mondo Millions Lottery. That’s the good news. The bad news is, the lottery claim office is closed for the long Fourth of July weekend, so, before he can collect his prize, Kevin is going to have to figure out how to keep a lid on his good fortune and survive the next three days.

As news of his windfall spreads through the community like a grass fire, Kevin quickly discovers the good, the bad and the ugly in his closest friends and neighbors. Girls who could never be bothered before start chasing him down. Everyone wants a piece of him—including the reverend, the local loan shark and one very threatening recent parolee won’t take no for an answer. On edge and on the run, he even begins to question the intentions of his best friend, Benny (Brandon T. Jackson). He also starts to realize the power he holds in his hands and what this lottery ticket could really mean to him, his future, and the community. It’s funny what people will do when money is involved.

The film’s all-star ensemble cast is led by Bow Wow, Brandon T. Jackson, Naturi Naughton, Keith David, Charlie Murphy, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Terry Crews, Loretta Devine and Ice Cube. It also stars Bill Bellamy, Mike Epps and Faheem Najm, known to music fans as T-Pain. “Lottery Ticket” is directed by Erik White from a screenplay by Abdul Williams and story by Erik White & Abdul Williams. It is produced by Mark Burg, Oren Koules, Andrew A. Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Matt Alvarez. Ice Cube, Timothy M. Bourne and Steven P. Wegner serve as executive producers, with co-producers Brad Kaplan, Andrew Wilson and Yolanda T. Cochran.

  “LOTTERY TICKET” has been rated “PG-13” by the Motion Picture Association of America for “sexual content, language including a drug reference, some violence and brief underage drinking.”
